Florida groUp continUes to groW toUrnament trail For kids

Gary Waingrow and Bob Newland started Broward County Bass Fishing Kids Trail in 2002, with the help and sponsorship of Bass Pro Shops and the Broward County Parks and Recreation Division. The tournaments are open to all the kids in the community and are orien- tated towards education of the sport in a fun family atmosphere. The trail consists of eight tournaments a year. Six tourna- ments are qualifying events, one tournament as a wildcard. The top-qualifying anglers will then compete in the kid’s classic in December. Participants are divided into two divisions, small fry

for ages up to 10 years old, and juniors for ages 11 thru 16. At the end of every tournament, the organizers hold a fishing clinic. A local pro bass tournament angler hosts each clinic. Trophies and prizes are awarded. In December 2008, at the season ending clas- sic, grand prizes were awarded in an honorary ceremony. Gary and Bob are proud to award a Pond Prowler with trolling motor and battery each year, courtesy of Bass Pro Shops. The 2009 season has started off as possibly the best year ever for the group. The tournaments have had an average of 40 - 60 kids completing in all qualifying tournaments and that number is expected to continue to grow. In 2008 Palm Beach County and Savannah Kids Bass Trail came on board. BW
