December 5, 2009 was the first event of the new Berkley ACWRL Motherlode trail. Berkley is pleased to join with Angler’s Choice as the title sponsor of the 2010 Western Rookie League as this is the biggest circuit in the Western U.S. for the amateur angler. 81 teams were greeted at check-in by cold weather graced with a wisp of a light wind. After imbibing on free hot coffee, tea, & chocolate with doughnuts and some fishing talk mixed in for good measure, all teams readied themselves and prepared to launch their boats. The 7 a.m. blast-off from the marina dock went very well as the cold but windless weather held for 3 or 4 hours, allowing

everyone to get to their favorite spot without getting wet. The bite at Mc Clure had toughened up over the last several weeks and each of the teams were going to need to utilize their full arsenal of tech- niques and baits to scratch out a five-fish limit come weigh-in time. With over $12,000 in cash & prizes up for grabs in this event, everyone knew boating that five fish limit was the key to placing in the money. Many anglers were going to need to employ their balance beams for this event as individual fish weights going to be separated by hundredths of ounces.
