THE FIRST AND FINAL WORD ON BASS FISHING

ON PLANE

THE

last ten years have been an amazing journey for me. I have been blessed with the opportunity to make my living in the very sport I love, and it’s been an amazing ride. Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to compete against my heroes, sh some amazing lakes, and meet some incredible people. One of those individuals, Russ Bassdozer immediately became somewhat of a mentor to me. While I had been involved in the competitive side of bass shing, it was Russ who opened my eyes to the business side, to the potential of making my livelihood in shing. Over the years Russ Bassdozer and I became good friends; we cashed more than a few checks, and bounced quite a few ideas off each other. Our friendship started back in 1999 when we met at a writers’ confab for Gary Yamamoto’s Inside Line magazine. Russ was well known at the time for his website Bassdozer.com. Eventually he would become even more known for his tremendous writing skills and marketing savvy. Russ and I have spent a lot of time in a boat together on numerous western waters. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Russ as an angler, writer and person. For all of you familiar with Bassdozer’s writing style you know it’s an extremely in-depth and techni- cal style, one that truly captures the reader and conveys the story at hand in a brilliant vivid fashion. This year Bassdozer is joining the BassWestUSA team as our Editor In Chief. It’s an amazing move and one that’s sure to make a great publication even better. Russ’s tal- ented story-telling matched with an artistic eye for graphic design will undoubtedly push BassWest even further above the industry bar. As for me, I’m going to be right here as Editor At Large working alongside Russ. I am also going to be working on some new BassWest projects that we will be announcing shortly. Now I would be lying if I said I am not going to miss sharing my personal thoughts and experiences with all of you at the beginning of each issue, but hopefully in the near fu- ture I will have that opportunity through other new BW outlets. I remember anglers at one time making the comment that Russ and I were unbeatable as a team; it was a very at- tering comment, and one I believe will be true again right here at BW. It looks like 2011 is going to be a banner year for MAM Marketing (the ownership of Bass- West) and all our media properties. We are all really excited to have Russ’s experience and knowledge on board and I hope you will all welcome him with open arms. JC

As “my brother from another mother” Jamie moves on to even bigger and better things to come soon from MAM Marketing, I am stepping into his editorial shoes to continue to entertain, ed- ucate and enthrall you with every issue of BassWestUSA. To me, BassWest is already one of the top three shing magazines in the country. We’re unrivaled in the content delivered by our contributors. BassWest is real shing, not armchair journalism, and authentic, a- vorful storytelling. After all, what fun would shing be if we couldn’t retell and relive the tales, spin the yarns, talk the smack and pass along our mutual love and respect for our sport. Sometimes I wonder why every man, woman and child doesn’t go shing all the time. Some never go. But then again, if everyone loved shing the way you and I do, all the good spots would be taken. Kidding aside, truth is that we shermen are few and far between. I’ll strive to keep BassWestUSA coming to you, as the one place where anglers like us can meet on these pages to revel in our pursuit of all things bass shing. That’s my commitment to you and to this place we call BassWest. Russ Bassdozer
