The newly formed U.S. Anglers Choice Inland Empire Trail kicked off its season on Saturday, October 30, 2010. 22 teams were greeted at this inaugural event by nasty weather right out of the gate. As soon as the anglers launched the wind and rain picked up, drenching the entire eld. Fortunately for all, the weath- er changed mid day, allowing the sun to shine and everyone to dry out come weigh-in time. First place went to the team of Kevin Linehan and Jim Em- mett. The duo mentioned that they caught about 45 sh and the bite was steady throughout the day. Their total weight was 21.81 lbs anchored by the largest bass of the contest - a 6.13 lbs large- mouth caught by Emmett. “Everyone out there was doing the same thing we were, topwater, ukes and senkos. We just happened to catch the right ones,” said Kevin. For their efforts, Kevin and Jimmy took home $2,550 in cash. What a great way to celebrate Jim Emmet's birthday. Happy birthday buddy! Second place went to the always tough team of Will Rakowitz and Kyle Grover. Kyle and Will weighed 21.35 lbs and also men- tioned catching around 40 sh. The team won $940 and go down in history for the most second place nishes of all time! Third place was nailed down by Art Bailey and Brian Johnson with 19.23 lbs. Art has been catching big bags for the past several months and was one of the favorites coming into the contest. They won $660 and will be tough competitors for the AOY title as the season progresses. In what turned out to be a big surprise, Mike Phua and Mike Lillibridge nished in fourth with 19.10 lbs winning $450. Mike and Mike are always a favorite to win and are one of the best teams around. Sav-on Tackle donated a $100 gift certi cate to the team who caught the largest Striper and that award went to Matt Magnone and Dan Merchant with a 12.81 lb beast! Matt mentioned that he caught it on 4 lb test I believe.
