We, the Firemen, Gerald Swindle, Jerry McKinnis and I, had an idea to take Kevin to the 2011 Bassmaster Classic. Gerald called and wanted to do something special either way but if Kevin was up to it and had the strength he want- ed to show him a good time. Our goal was to show him the fraternity of anglers and what they were all about. Kevin didn’t watch sports like football and baseball, he only watched shing. We wanted to make sure this was one special trip. He got to see it all In the last few days prior to the trip Kevin’s pain increased and he had been hospital- ized. He had to have his stomach drained to relieve pressure. Through all of it, the Classic trip was still important to him. Two days before the trip he sent us a countdown. He made a promise to be there and he made it. It was not only a great time for Kevin but for all that touched him as well. This experience has been life changing for me. I have a whole new group of friends and brothers and the common thread is shing. I truly believe that Divine Intervention allowed us to cross paths and I celebrate Kevin’s life every day. He changed mine and his life has made mine better. Firemen John Carrier and Chris Kohnke changed it too. This group will always have a special place in my heart. March 11, 2011 at 9:21 pm Kevin gave up his battle with the cancer. We had planned to go shing this month and we didn’t get to go. That day will come. We will someday sh God’s Pond together. He changed my life and it all happened…in a blink of an eye. BWU
Kevin Oldham made a promise to be at the Classic and he kept it. His strength is an inspiration for all.
