» TEAM HEINTZ TOPS

Amid the wild winter weather plaguing the Midwest this year, the Lake Egypt Division of Angler's Choice kicked of on February 26th, 2011. Thirty- ve teams were greeted with cloudy skies and a temps in the low thirties at the 7am launch time. Things wouldn't change much throughout the day with high temps barely getting into the forties. The bite was reported to be rather stingy as com- pared to earlier in the week and by Lake Egypt standards in gen- eral. Anglers caught a total of 131 bass with a combined weight of 345 pounds. Considering it was a tough day a 9.85 pound average per boat re ects the quality of the anglers in this trail. Teams arrived at the 3pm weigh-in and were greeted to BBQ sandwiches, potato salad and cole slaw, which is something that our shermen can expect to happen often this year! There also were tackle giveaways from trail sponsors: Optimum baits. Talon Lures and Bagley Baits. We hope to gain more divisional sponsors for upcoming events as the year progresses. Though most claimed it was a tough day on the lake the bag brought to the scales by Tom and Ken Heintz did not coincide with the norm, they found em' and found em’ good!. The team brought a huge bag to the scales weighing in at 21.95 lbs that was anchored by a 6.36 lb. pre spawn giant. This sh was taken in approximately ten feet of water on a crankbait. The team caught all of their better sh earlier in the day and even though they had around ten keeper bites they were only able to cull and better their bag size maybe once during the day. They simply got the right bites early and the rest of the day was spent waiting to weigh them in. For the win the team earned $1,420 and it doesn't stop there, that 6.36 lb beauty claimed them Big Bass of the day adding an additional

$350 to their pocket. As if that wasn't enough the team had also entered the optional twenty dollar side pot and added $270 to the total. Total take home cash $2,040. WOW!! that's a great day on the lake. Tom and Ken are sponsored by Elli Homes Inc. and New Generation Hair and Skin. Coming in second place was the team of Mark Jelley and Lin- dell Fitch. Lindell was a substitute for Danny Clark who couldn't make it on this day. Mark and Lindell used a variety of baits to amass their 16.53 lb. bag. Some of the baits they mentioned catching them on included rattle traps, shaky heads and jerkbaits. They focused their efforts in depths of six to ten feet and shed in water temps ranging from 43 to 48 degrees. For their efforts the team pocketed checks totaling $1,048 and that was for second place! Both team members represent Zeigler Bait and Feed. The third place team of Clark Davis and Bob Allexander re- ported catching ten to twelve keepers throughout the day. They were shing plastic worms and shed primarily deep in water depths of sixteen to twenty feet. They had a total weight of 16.40 lbs. and left the awards ceremony with checks totaling $735.
